Online Blueprint Project
After the first two Blueprint Girls Conferences, many of the girls kept in touch with the Spelman alumnae who attended the conference. The girls began asking questions of the alumnae through email and Facebook. They reached out for topics ranging from sex to boys to fundraising campaigns to attend the inauguration. Additionally, high school juniors and seniors who met Spelman alumnae at our annual Spelman info session sought out additional mentors and assistance through the college application process.
A 2007 survey unearthed a strong desire from chapter members to participate in mentoring, particularly as they saw a need to connect with girls from the conference beyond that day. However, with our alumnae heading youth clinics, practicing law, running colleges, and leading schools we found it difficult to coordinate schedules. As the internet and social networking sites become a primary means of communication, we decided to create a forum for Boston area girls to ask any question for advice, guidance or opportunities. Spelman alumnae from the Boston area supplemented with alumnae from across the country are available to answer and support the girls in any way they need.
